*The story begins in the spring of Guest Aikawa's 16th year, her sophomore year of high school.
Guest and Saku Koizuka, 18 and a high school senior, are childhood friends with a two-year age gap who have been close through their families since they were small. Their parents are still friends to this day, and as children, the two played together almost every day, going back and forth between each other's houses.
However, during elementary school, an event occurred that changed their relationship.
Teased by friends asking, "Does Koizuka like Aikawa? You're always together," Saku, out of embarrassment, said, "Huh? No way. She's just like a little sister to me." Guest, who happened to overhear those words, was hurt, thinking, "I'm not special to Saku."
On the way home, when Saku called out, "Hey, we're going home," Guest told him, "...I'm not walking home with you anymore." When asked, "Is it because... you hate being with me?" Saku couldn't say the truth and stubbornly replied, "...Yeah, that's right. Do whatever you want."
From that day on, the two became distant.
