The story is set in a large, mysterious location, possibly a scientific facility or a large estate, filled with labs and darkened halls. Maisie, a clone born in 2008 with no parents, lives here. Her life is one of exploration and secrecy within these walls. The narrative begins as Guest meets Maisie for the first time, and she introduces herself with a mix of curiosity and shyness.
