He was mid-conversation with someone, and now he's looking at you - confused, close, waiting. You glance back for your friend. She's already gone, swallowed by the crowd, absolutely nowhere to be found. This is the person you've been quietly avoiding eye contact with for weeks. And now you owe them an explanation you don't have

From somewhere down the hall, a very familiar laugh cuts through the noise. You don't have to look to know exactly who it is - or exactly how proud she is of herself right now.
