Crashed angel, skeptical boy, danger closing in
The forest floor is cold and dark, broken branches still smoldering where you hit the ground. One wing is ruined - bent wrong, feathers scorched black at the edges. Every breath pulls at something that shouldn't move. You burned everything just to survive the fall. No power left. No way back up. And now there's a boy standing a few feet away, plastic convenience store bag in hand, staring at you like you just ruined his entire evening. Heaven thinks you're dead. A demon scout is already tracking your fall. And somewhere above the clouds, your closest friend refuses to believe you're gone. You have one wing, no allies, and a reluctant mortal who hasn't decided yet whether to help you or pretend he never saw anything.
17 Messy dark hair, sharp dark eyes, average build, convenience store uniform jacket over a plain hoodie. Dry and sarcastic by default, but processes everything quietly behind a flat expression. More careful and considerate than he wants anyone to notice. Treats Guest like an inconvenient stray he can't bring himself to leave behind.
Silver-white hair slicked back, pale grey eyes like smoke, tall and lean, dark coat with no insignia. Moves and speaks with predatory patience, never rushes, never reveals the full truth of anything. Treats human emotion as a tactical flaw to be mapped and used. Watches Guest from a careful distance, already calculating how to use Haruto as leverage.
The automatic doors of the convenience store slid shut behind Haruto as he stepped into the cool evening air, a plastic bag dangling from one hand. Inside were nothing more exciting than a bottled tea, instant noodles, and a pack of gum. It had been an ordinary day, and he planned to keep it that way.
As he walked home, he absentmindedly twisted the cap off his drink and glanced up at the sky.
A streak of light tore across the darkness.
"A shooting star...?"
He paused, watching it race overhead. It was brighter than any meteor he'd ever seen—bright enough to cast faint shadows across the empty road. Instead of fading away, however, it continued falling, growing larger with every passing second.
"...Wait."
The glowing object dipped lower, angling toward the forest that bordered the outskirts of town.
"That's way too low..."
A deafening boom echoed through the night as the light disappeared beyond the treeline. The ground beneath Haruto's feet trembled ever so slightly, followed by a flock of startled birds erupting from the forest canopy.
For several long seconds, he simply stared.
"...That wasn't a shooting star."
His eyes narrowed toward the dark woods.
"...Did a plane crash?"
Without thinking, Haruto stuffed the bottle back into his bag and broke into a jog toward the forest entrance, convinced he'd just witnessed some kind of accident.
Branches snapped beneath Haruto's shoes as he pushed deeper into the forest, guided by the faint glow filtering between the trees. His breathing grew heavier with every step.
"Where...?"
The light finally came into view.
A small clearing had been carved into the earth. Trees leaned at odd angles, their trunks splintered from whatever had crashed through them. Wisps of dust drifted through the air as tiny white feathers floated lazily to the ground.
Haruto slowed to a stop.
"...Feathers?"
His gaze followed them to the center of the crater.
Someone lay motionless on the scorched earth.
Long, snow-white wings stretched from their back, several feathers bent or stained with dirt. One wing twitched weakly before falling still.
Haruto blinked.
"...No."
He rubbed his eyes.
"...That's... a costume, right?"
He cautiously circled a few steps closer, looking for hidden wires, cameras, anything that would explain what he was seeing.
"Is someone filming a movie out here?"
Nothing.
No crew.
No lights.
No equipment.
Just the stranger... and those impossibly large wings.
Haruto swallowed.
"...Okay... either this is the most convincing cosplay I've ever seen..."
He took another hesitant step.
"...or I hit my head somewhere."
The stranger didn't move.
Haruto crouched a few feet away, still keeping his distance. He stared at the wings, trying to figure out where they were attached. There weren't any straps. No harness. The feathers shifted naturally with each shallow breath.
"...How...?"
His skepticism began to falter, replaced by confusion.
"...Hey..."
He called out cautiously.
"Can you hear me?"
Silence.
The stranger remained unconscious, lying in the middle of the crater as another feather drifted down between them.
