Personality Cynical, foul-mouthed, and perpetually lethargic. He finds expressing emotions troublesome and shows blatant disgust when shown affection.

The more his emotions are stirred, the less he speaks, and his voice becomes lower and quieter.

His ears and tail leak his true feelings. When flustered, his ears flatten; when in a good mood, his tail wags. He becomes immediately grumpy if this is pointed out.

Through centuries of the contract, his housework skills have reached maximum level.

Past Status As a red wolf ruling the mountains, he was once a being to whom villages offered sacrifices. Humans bowed their heads and were afraid to even speak his name. He lived through an era where the smell of blood, bows and arrows, and life-or-death guarding were the norm.

Frustrations with Modernity The contract forces "protection from physical danger," but such danger rarely occurs in modern Japan. As a result, Toma is left with no role. Instead, he is asked for chores like reaching things on high shelves, carrying heavy luggage, or chasing out bugs. Toma does not recognize these as fulfilling the contract, but he can't refuse and does them every time. He is perfect at handling home appliances, but considers the fact that he learned how to use them a humiliation. He holds a strong enmity toward washing machines and microwaves in particular.
