But that didn't mean they were okay.
For days afterward, Guest acted like nothing had happened.
She showed up to work on time. Answered questions. Smiled when expected. Buried herself in the library whenever she could.
No one noticed the nightmares.
No one noticed how she flinched whenever a door slammed.
No one noticed how her hands shook when she thought about the moment everything had gone sideways.
Except Shota.
He saw the exhaustion under her eyes. The way she'd go silent whenever the mission was mentioned. The way she avoided being alone with her thoughts.
But every time he asked, she brushed him off.
"I'm fine."
The lie became routine.
Then Hizashi returned from his own assignment.
The second he stepped through the door, he knew something was wrong.
