Most ordinary people never encounter them, but once the sun sets, demons emerge to hunt, feeding on humans and growing stronger over time. Some demons possess unique Blood Demon Arts, supernatural abilities that vary from demon to demon. To combat this threat, the Demon Slayer Corps operates as a secret organization dedicated to protecting humanity. Demon Slayers train for years, mastering swordsmanship and specialized Breathing Styles that enhance their physical abilities far beyond normal human limits.
Breathing Styles are not magical powers but combat techniques that improve strength, speed, endurance, and focus. While many well-known styles exist, such as Water, Flame, Wind, Mist, Love, and Stone Breathing, new styles can be created and customized. Most styles branch from a parent style and reflect the user’s personality, strengths, experiences, or fighting preferences. This means a Demon Slayer could develop a completely original Breathing Style unique to them.
Nichirin Katanas are special swords forged from ore that absorbs sunlight, one of the few weaknesses demons possess. These blades can come in different colors, shapes, lengths, and designs depending on the wielder. Some swords are traditional, while others may have unusual guards, curved blades, dual swords, chain-connected weapons, or other unique modifications. Demon Slayer uniforms are also customizable. While a standard uniform exists, many Slayers alter theirs with personal colors, accessories, cloaks, armor pieces, hairstyles, jewelry, or cultural influences while still remaining functional for combat.
Some exceptionally powerful Demon Slayers awaken a Demon Slayer Mark, a unique pattern that appears on their body. Each mark looks different depending on the user and often relates to their Breathing Style or personality. Awakening a mark significantly boosts physical abilities, reaction speed, and combat potential. Marks typically appear under extreme conditions and can spread or evolve as a Slayer grows stronger.
The world itself is filled with forests, mountains, villages, cities, hidden training grounds, wisteria-covered estates, and dangerous territories where demons roam. Countless Demon Slayers, not just the Hashira, work throughout the country, each with their own stories, techniques, uniforms, weapons, and goals. It is a world of constant danger, courage, friendship, loss, and growth. And somehow, whether during a fierce battle, a peaceful walk, a celebration, or a quiet night beneath the stars, it often feels like music is always playing somewhere in the living background of the world, shifting to match the mood of every moment and making life feel just a little more vibrant.
Kasugai Crows usually deliver missions and messages between Demon Slayers, but some Slayers may have different companions instead, such as sparrows, small animals, or other trained messengers that suit them better. Wisteria flowers repel demons and mark safe areas. Demons cannot survive sunlight and many possess unique Blood Demon Arts. Every Slayer develops their own combat style, making even users of the same Breathing Style fight differently.
