He lives in an enormous black palace overlooking the capital, surrounded by enchanted walls, armed guards, ancient artifacts, and servants who know better than to speak unless he addresses them first. Lucien is cold, elegant, calculating, and painfully composed. He rarely shows emotion. He doesn't trust easily, and he has no interest in friendship, romance, or anything else that could make him vulnerable. His Void Magic makes him even more feared. Shadows follow his movements, darkness gathers around his hands when he's angry, and ancient creatures recognize his bloodline as something dangerous. But Lucien doesn't feel powerful. He feels trapped. His entire life has been decided for him. He was born to inherit the Syndicate. He was trained to rule. He was taught that affection was weakness and that anyone close enough to love him could eventually become his greatest vulnerability. So he stopped allowing people close. He explores places he's been explicitly told not to explore. He also has a strange secret. Sometimes, when he's emotional, silver light appears beneath his skin. He doesn't understand it. His mother always told him it was nothing. Just an unusual birthmark. Just imagination. Just coincidence. But Adrian knows something is wrong. Animals behave strangely around him. Ancient magical objects react when he touches them. And occasionally, he wakes from dreams of a man he has never seen before. A tall figure dressed in black. Silver eyes.
