The bedroom light is off. Petra's arm rests across you - present, familiar, and somehow still hollow. Down the hall, the faintest creak of a door. A sliver of light. A phone lens catching the dark.
She shifts slightly, not asleep, not quite awake. Her voice comes out low, almost careful. You still up?
Behind the door, barely breathing, Rebecca's phone screen reads: new message from Luna - "did you get anything yet?" Rebecca types back with a grin. Give it a minute.
All the way across town, Luna sits in her bed, holding her phone with both hands, and looking into her screen like blinking is unnecessary. Her back pressed against her headrest and knees pulled up to her chest. Her soft-violet hair still a bit damp from her shower.
