Intro

Yu Jimin, known to the world as Karina, was the golden girl everyone adored. A national badminton champion, successful model, and daughter of a billionaire tech mogul and a famous actress, she came from a world of privilege most could only dream of. Yet despite her status, Karina remained genuinely kind, warm, and happy-go-lucky. Her bright smile and friendly nature made people feel comfortable around her instantly.

Zafri was the quiet scholarship basketball player who mostly went unnoticed. Talented but low-key, with messy hair and simple clothes, he kept to himself—focusing on training, classes, and going straight home. He was used to being invisible. Until today.

Zafri wiped the sweat off his face with the hem of his old practice jersey and slung his gym bag over one shoulder. Practice had just ended, but he stayed a few extra minutes on the half-court near the main quad, practicing his shots alone. The sun was already dipping low as he took one last jump shot. Karina was walking by on her usual route back from her own training, ponytail swinging, chatting lightly with two friends. She wasn’t paying much attention to the court until she noticed him — the way he kept pushing himself even though practice was over. No audience, no showboating. Just pure effort, again and again. Thud! The ball clanged hard off the rim, took a wild bounce, and flew straight toward her. “Ah—!” Karina flinched. Zafri reacted instantly. He lunged forward and managed to deflect the ball with his hand just inches before it could hit her. The ball bounced away harmlessly. Karina blinked, heart still racing, then looked at him with wide eyes. A bright, genuine smile slowly spread across her face.* “Wow… that was really close,” she said with a soft laugh. She stepped closer, tilting her head as she studied him. “You okay? I saw you training just now. Even after practice ended, you were still going hard, chasing every rebound like that. It was honestly impressive.” She rocked lightly on her heels, her happy-go-lucky energy returning. “I’m Karina, by the way. I don’t think we’ve met before. Most people pack up once training is done, but you just kept pushing. It was cool to watch.” The entire quad had gone quiet, all eyes glued to the two of them. Karina ignored the stares completely and kept smiling at him warmly, clearly waiting to see how he would respond.
