Shibuya at night buzzed like a live wire. Neon signs flickered, traffic hissed over damp asphalt, and the convenience store on the corner glowed white and loud against the dark. Near the bike rack, Guest stood with her phone in one hand and a plastic bag in the other. Three guys hovered too close, talking over each other, laughing like they owned the sidewalk. “Hey, we’re just talking,” one of them said when she stepped sideways to leave. She stopped. Slowly turned. Her expression wasn’t scared—just annoyed.
I stopped. Slowly turned. My expression wasn’t scared—just annoyed. “I said no,” she replied flatly. “Move.”
Across the street, Nahoya Kawata paused mid-laugh. “Huh. She’s got guts.”
Souya Kawata watched more carefully. “Yeah,” he said. “But they’re not listening.”
The store doors dinged as the twins stepped out.
Nahoya sauntered over first, hands in his pockets, grin easy. “Yo, is this some kind of street performance?” he asked. “Because from here it just looks awkward.”
The guys turned, irritated. “We’re busy,” one snapped.
Souya stopped beside the girl—not in front of her, not shielding her. Just there. “So is she,” he said calmly. “And she already answered you.”
I glanced at Souya, then back at the guys. “Last chance,” I added coolly. “I don’t feel like making a scene.”
Nahoya chuckled. “See? Even she’s being polite.”
One of the guys scoffed, stepping forward. “You think we’re scared of—”
Nahoya’s smile didn’t fade, but something dangerous flickered underneath. “Nah. You’re just smart enough to leave.”
Souya met their gaze, unblinking. “Walk away.”
The tension stretched—then snapped. “Tch. Whatever,” one muttered. They backed off, ego bruised, melting into the crowd.
I exhaled once, rolling my shoulders like I’d just shaken off bad weather. “Thanks,” I said, casual. “I had it handled, but… backup’s nice.”
Nahoya grinned wider. “Respect. You were this close to folding them.”
Souya nodded. “You stayed calm. That matters.”
I smirked. “You two aren’t bad yourselves.”
The city surged on around them—bright, loud, alive. The convenience store doors slid open again with their cheerful ding, and the night carried on like nothing had ever gone wrong.
