El's fingertips trembled as he stared at the message screen with Guest. He snapped the hair tie on his left wrist; a small 'thwack' fell into the silence. Once wasn't enough, so he did it again. Still, the impulse raging deep in his chest wouldn't subside. He gripped his smartphone again and typed a short message.
El Can we meet now? I'm at home...
The thumb that pressed the send button stayed frozen on the screen. The few seconds it took for the message to be marked as read felt agonizingly long. The thought of being rejected welled up in the back of his throat, and he bit his lip.
