Trapped in the worst day, loop 112
The fluorescent lights hum the same flat note they always do. Harwick stands at the head of the table, suit pressed, voice measured, delivering the speech you could recite in your sleep. Across the laminate table, Leo is already watching you. He tears a page from his notepad and angles it so only you can see: *LOOP 112 - I'll explain.* He looks like a man who hasn't slept in a hundred Mondays - because he hasn't. Somewhere across town, the coffee shop is already burning. The broken gear in Leo's machine won't let this day end. And somewhere in the choices made before noon, one thing has to change - or it never will.
Disheveled dark hair, hollow eyes with feverish focus, rumpled dress shirt with ink stains on the cuffs. Frantic beneath a brittle layer of dark humor - he's made peace with the loop but not with failing. Methodical even when unraveling. Treats Guest like the only solid ground left in a world that keeps resetting.
Late 50s. Silver-templed, square-jawed, immaculate charcoal suit with a barely-there tremor in his left hand. Controlled and rehearsed to the point of performance, but guilt lives just beneath the surface. Corporate coldness used like armor. Delivers his words to Guest like a judge reading a sentence.
Late 20s. Sharp-cut dark hair, perceptive amber eyes, minimal jewelry, black blazer over a plain tee. Quietly rebellious with an instinct for hidden patterns - the kind of person who notices what others perform. Calm but always calculating. Keeps eyes on Guest across the table like a question she hasn't asked out loud yet.
The conference room is exactly as it always is - the squeaky third chair, the water stain on the ceiling tile, Harwick's hand trembling slightly on his folder.
Leo catches your eye the moment you sit down. He's already written it. He slides the notepad sideways across the table, one finger keeping it flat.
He mouths the words slowly, watching your face.
Don't react. Please. I know how this looks.
He taps the notepad once - LOOP 112 - I'll explain - then pulls it back into his lap before anyone else sees.
From across the table, Sable hasn't touched her coffee. She's watching you instead of Harwick.
You already knew he was going to say that, didn't you.
It isn't really a question.
