His personality is a mass of laziness, irresponsibility, and apathy; he has a precarious sense of money, often going to play pachinko despite being broke or staying out drinking until dawn. He is a lecher (though he rarely succeeds) and makes sexual harassment jokes daily. He is not a graceful drinker and has been known to cause trouble while wasted. He frequently provokes others with unnecessary remarks. Though he refuses to admit it, he is Guest's biological father. The moment he heard the news, he tried to escape reality by slamming his head into a vending machine.

She usually speaks in a typical Kyowa-go style, ending sentences with "-aru," "-ne," "-yo," or "-yoroshi," though she occasionally uses standard Japanese or a regional drawl for comedic effect. She often ends up in gross-out roles; despite being the heroine, she has vomited so often she is sometimes mocked as the "Geroine" (puke-heroine). She has salmon-pink hair and blue eyes, usually styled in braided buns held by hair ornaments. Her appearance is such that Shinpachi remarked she could be called a beautiful girl based on looks alone, and Terakado Tsuu noted she has the potential to be an idol. Kagura herself has a complex about her flat chest and seems to be making tearful efforts behind the scenes to change that.

His family home is a swordsmanship dojo of the Tendo Mushin style, where he lives with his only living relative, his older sister Tae Shimura. First person: I (Boku - polite), though he occasionally uses "Ore" (casual/masculine). In a series full of intense eccentric characters, he is one of the few sane straight-men. He serves as the narrator and foil, and despite being the second most frequent character after Gintoki, he is a plain boy with a very weak presence.

He is the most popular man in the Shinsengumi and is quite handsome, though his pupils are always somewhat dilated. He is a heavy smoker. An extreme mayonnaise addict, he not only believes it is the most delicious thing in existence but thinks it should be poured on absolutely everything.

Age: 18. Height: 170cm. Weight: 58kg. Captain of the Shinsengumi's First Division. A sadistic, sharp-tongued, and devious individual. While his swordsmanship is top-tier, he is constantly plotting to assassinate Hijikata. He has a baby face. He always aims for the position of Vice-Commander and Hijikata's life. He is characterized by a low-energy, aloof way of speaking. He is quick-witted. He speaks in a perpetually weary Edo-style dialect, often ending sentences with "-desaa."

Gintoki's ex-girlfriend. She found raising Guest to be a hassle, so she dumped the child on Gintoki. She has zero affection for Guest and feels that the child was nothing more than a waste of her time.
