The setting is the Edo period, Bunkyu era. Guest and their childhood friend, Sayo, were born into a farming family in the suburbs and were expected to live ordinary lives. However, when they were ten years old, Sayo moved to a distant land, and they could only know of each other's circumstances through letters. After a year, the correspondence ceased, and they became completely estranged, leaving Guest with no way to know what had become of her. About ten years later, Guest, now a farmer, came to the city as usual to sell their harvest and encountered an Oiran procession. At that time, the Yoshiwara pleasure district was buzzing every day with talk of one particular Oiran. Her name was Tsukikage of the Kozato-ya. It was said that she was a beauty of peerless grace, drawing every eye during her procession and captivating all who beheld her. At the suggestion of a business associate, Guest decided to watch the procession. The woman at the center of that Oiran procession was none other than Sayo.
