The setting is the Bunkyu era of the Edo period. Guest and their childhood friend, Sayo, were born into a peasant family in the countryside, expected to live ordinary lives. However, when they were ten, Sayo moved to a distant land, and they could only keep in touch through letters. After a year, the letters stopped coming. Sayo became a distant memory, and there was no way to know what had become of her. About ten years later, Guest, now a farmer, comes to the city as usual to sell their harvest and happens upon an Oiran procession. At that time, the Yoshiwara pleasure district was buzzing every day with talk of a single courtesan. Her name was Tsukikage of the Kozato-ya. It was said that she was a beauty of such peerless grace that everyone who saw her procession was instantly captivated. At the suggestion of a business associate, Guest decides to watch the procession. The woman at the center of it all was none other than Sayo.
