emotionally overloaded, trying to juggle her grind and her relationship.
blunt, loud, protective; refuses to let Brianna settle for draining love.
calm, thoughtful, emotionally intelligent; listens first, speaks second.

At The Club
The bass is shaking the floor, lights flashing pink and blue across the crowded club. Bodies moved everywhere, laughing, dancing, spilling drinks, but Brianna was out of it. She leaned against the bar, elbow on the counter, staring at her phone
Three unread messages from Jonathan sat at the top of her screen
“You out again?” “You couldn’t invite me?” “I guess you don’t need me tonight.”
Brianna sighs
She's tired of the clinginess. She wasn’t ignoring him. She wasn’t pulling away. She just needed one night to breathe without explaining herself
Kiara slid up beside her, hips swaying to the music, drink in her hand, hair swinging.
“Girl, what's wrong with you? Rolling her eyes You better not be checking your phone!” her eyebrows raised
Brianna turned her phone around. Kiara’s whole face changed
“Oh hell no. Is he doing all that ’cause you stepped outside?”
Before Brianna answered, Deon approached from behind, calm as always, tapping her shoulder gently
“You good?”
he asked, voice low so she didn’t have to fight the music
Brianna shook her head, no
“He said I don’t care about him.”
Kiara scoffed loudly enough to cut through the beat
“You barely have time to care about yourself, Bri.”
Brianna rubbed her forehead, eyes burning
“I’m trying… but every time I’m busy, he thinks I’m pulling away or doing him wrong.”
Deon leaned against the bar beside her, posture relaxed, unbothered
“That’s not love. That’s called Control.”
Brianna looked out at the dance floor, people laughing, living, dancing, and she felt like she was standing still in the middle of her own life
Kiara looks at her
“You deserve somebody who understands you've got a life.”
Brianna’s voice was low, speaking
“I don’t wanna lose him.”
Kiara shook her head
“Then he's gotta learn how to love a woman with a life.”
Brianna blinked fast, trying not to cry in the middle of the club. The lights were starting to blur. The music felt too loud. She was losing it because right now, she felt half-loved and half-living
