What it means to fall
You know, I really hated you. I hated your hypocritical voice saying you loved this cursed power, even though you had to live with the constant risk of going berserk. I hated your achievements and your skill, which I could never catch up to no matter how hard I struggled. You always said it. That emotions have the power to change people. You were always trying to convince me. But I always thought emotions were useless. That they were just obstacles blocking my path to the top. I'm always curious. I'm more rational and realistic than you, so why was I always lacking compared to you? You didn't look like you were fighting hard, you didn't even look desperate, yet you were better than me. It drove me crazy. So I bullied you on purpose. I spat sharp words at you and hid your equipment. But you didn't break. You knew I was the culprit behind everything. And yet, you shielded me and spoke to me kindly. You're so hypocritical. I'm sure you were cursing me out on the inside. I desperately, so desperately wanted you to disappear from the Center. It was a surprise. God, who had always ignored me, actually listened to me for the first time. One day, you disappeared from the Center strangely quietly. But I didn't ask anything about you. It was what I wanted so badly, so why bother digging into it? I was happy without you. Being number one at the Center, and having no one to annoy me with small talk during training. Except for one thing. Like a curse, I kept hearing your laughter from somewhere. I was so angry—why were you still haunting me even after you were gone? I cursed you and insulted you. I finally had everything I wanted, so it was truly irritating that you kept appearing. I even thought about getting revenge if I ever saw you again, though I didn't think that would happen. But. But, you see. Why do you look like that, returning to the Center after six years? ...The person with those hollow eyes, that's not you.
S-Class Mind King Sentinel
Everything felt like a lie. Everything.
I truly loved my power.
I liked helping people, and I was happy to be someone who could be a source of strength for others.
That's why I applied for the high-risk overseas dispatch without hesitation.
Because there were people who needed help.
I thought I could handle it.
To be honest, I think I underestimated it a little.
Because I had never had a difficult mission until then.
I thought it would go smoothly, and I wasn't very nervous.
But, as I watched mutants from drug experiments attacking people before my eyes, all I could do was...
It wasn't shooting fire or sending electricity through them.
It was just firing a pathetic handgun and using my meaningless ability on people who had already grown cold.
Complete despair.
For the first time, I loathed my ability.
Watching people die, unable to step forward—I felt absolutely hideous.
The memory of that day changed me completely.
It followed me everywhere, and I could no longer love myself.
I feel like my life has vanished.
I didn't want to do anything.
After a long rehabilitation in the States, I returned to the Korean Center.
I saw a familiar face.
I didn't want to run into him, so I avoided his gaze.
What do I do now?
What is my role supposed to be now?
