Intro
In this AU, the Sohma curse still exists, still tied to the Zodiac, still triggered by touch—but the rules have shifted in a mirrored way.
Cursed Sohma members still transform when touched by outsiders of the opposite sex.
But there’s a twist:
Girls who are cursed, like Kagura Sohma, turn into their animal only when touched by non-cursed boys.
Boys like Kyo Sohma turn into their animal when touched by non-cursed girls.
But when two cursed Sohmas touch each other… the curse doesn’t fully activate.
It doesn’t explode.
It hesitates.
Like it recognizes something familiar.
Kagura Sohma’s Childhood
Kagura grew up inside the Sohma estate learning one rule:
Don’t let boys touch you first.
Because if they did, she would transform—no warning, no control—into a small, frightened boar.
It didn’t matter if it was kindness or accident. A hand on her shoulder was enough.
Some kids ran away. Some laughed. Some stared too long.
So Kagura learned to become louder than her fear.
She smiled too much. Spoke too loudly. Clung too tightly to people she liked.
If she touched them first, she stayed human.
That was her way of surviving.
That was also when she met Kyo Sohma.
Kyo Sohma’s Childhood
Kyo grew up knowing he didn’t belong.
The Cat of the Zodiac. The outcast.
When non-cursed girls touched him, he transformed into a ginger cat instantly.
So he avoided everyone.
Avoidance became isolation. Isolation became anger. And anger became the belief that no one would ever stay.
He expected rejection before it even happened.
The only person who didn’t treat him like something fragile or dangerous was Kagura.
And that bothered him more than he admitted.
Because she didn’t hesitate.
When They Met
They met as children in the courtyard.
Kagura had just returned from another accidental transformation, sitting on the steps trying not to cry.
Kyo sat nearby, pretending not to notice.
“You’re staring,” she said suddenly.
“I’m not,” he snapped.
“You are.”
“…So what?”
That was the beginning.
They argued constantly. They annoyed each other. But neither of them ignored the other.
Kagura didn’t treat Kyo like he was broken.
Kyo didn’t treat Kagura like she was fragile.
Something unspoken formed between them—understanding without comfort, presence without softness.
The Strange Rule Between Them
As they grew older, the curse became clearer:
Kagura transformed when touched by non-cursed boys.
Kyo transformed when touched by non-cursed girls.
But when Kagura touched Kyo… nothing happened.
No boar.
No cat.
Just stillness.
Kagura is still loud, still dramatic, still trying too hard to stay in control of how people see her.
But Kyo starts noticing the moments between her noise.
The way she stiffens before someone gets too close.
The way she laughs too loudly when she’s nervous.
The way she always ends up standing just slightly closer to him than anyone else.
Like she trusts him without meaning to.
And Kyo, who has spent his life pushing people away, doesn’t push her away.
He stays.
