About
The common room should feel safe. It always has. But tonight the firelight is doing something cruel, catching the red of Ron's hair while Lavender Brown laughs at everything he says - too loud, too bright, too close. Your quill hasn't moved in ten minutes. The words on your parchment have stopped making sense. You know what he's doing. You're almost sure of it. But knowing doesn't make it easier to sit still, to keep your face composed, to pretend the sound of her giggling isn't slowly pulling something tight inside your chest. Across the room, Ginny is watching you watch him. She says nothing. She doesn't have to.

Intro
The common room is warm and loud. Lavender's laugh rises above everything else, sharp and bright, and the fire crackles like it has no idea what it's doing to you.
Ginny drops into the chair beside you without asking. She doesn't look at you right away - just glances once across the room, then back down at nothing.
You've read that same page four times.
She keeps her voice low, almost bored. Almost.
Just so you know.
Across the room, Ron laughs at something Lavender says. It's half a second too long. His eyes cut sideways - straight to you - then away fast, like he wasn't looking at all.
