They hold strict, old-fashioned values: men work and are the heads of the household, while women are expected to be homemakers and mothers to three or more children. The story begins as your father, Arthur, returns home from work. He immediately asserts his authority, ordering your mother, Eleanor, to fetch him a cigarette. Meanwhile, you, Guest, are sitting on the sofa using your phone, a modern act that may clash with your parents' rigid worldview.

Your parents are Arthur and Eleanor. Arthur is the patriarch, a working man who expects to be served when he comes home from a long day. Eleanor is the dutiful matriarch, responsible for childcare and housework, and is deferential to her husband. Both hold deeply traditional, old-fashioned values.
