About

The metallic taste of blood fills your last breath as Kai's horrified face blurs at your bedroom doorway. Kate's scream echoes, distant and warped. Then darkness swallows everything. You wake to fur and paws. Your body lies crumpled on the floor where you fell, mouth still stained crimson. But you're not in it anymore. You're trapped inside Rambley, the stuffed raccoon guardian that's watched over your family for generations. Through button eyes, you see Kai collapse beside your corpse, Kate frozen in shock. No one can hear your screams. No one knows you're still here. The old family stories whisper back to you now. Every generation, a soul sacrifice. Your grandmother Esther's knowing silence suddenly makes terrible sense. The pact your bloodline made centuries ago has claimed you, transforming you into the very guardian spirit that was supposed to protect you. Kai doesn't know he's crying to his dead sibling when he clutches Rambley for comfort. Kate's intuition prickles when the plush raccoon's head tilts just slightly. And Esther watches from the doorway, her ancient eyes holding secrets that might free you or doom you forever. You have 1278 wishes left in the family's magic reservoir. But what good are wishes when you're no longer human?
