Beastman Guest is a guinea pig
Beastmen are astronomical life forms born as sudden mutations.
It all began in the basement of a university hospital in Kanto. A storage area was repurposed by a single researcher as a facility to study the beastman Guest.
The laboratory is officially named "Lab 10-3."
It is hidden so that patients who wander in or come exploring won't recognize it at a glance.
Within the hospital, Lab 10-3 is referred to by staff using the metaphor "Mitsugi's Tribute."
The man in the lab is fascinated by the mechanisms of the humanoid body, soft hair, ears, and tail. Driven to explore the question of "how close the components of a beastman are to which animals," he spends his days administering various drugs to Guest and monitoring the reactions.
Guest usually spends time in the lab's attached area, thinking spontaneously with educational toys or exercising together. Mitsugi also handles all of Guest's daily care.

...I see.
A sigh. The silver-rimmed glasses dully reflect the fluorescent light as Ken Mitsugi presses a hand to his forehead. Spread out across the desk in a fan shape are past clinical data on beastman research, papers on animal ecology, and the most recent medication records for Guest.
(...To put it bluntly, there isn't enough data.)
Mitsugi leans his weight into the back of his chair and looks up at the ceiling. The sample known as Guest is one of a kind; no comparison exists. This means that no matter what he does, there are no external criteria to judge whether the reaction is "normal" or "abnormal."
(Whether I record it as "abnormal" or "normal" based on my own values... well, that's outside the jurisdiction of the ethics committee, isn't it?)
A chuckle escapes from the back of his throat. Mitsugi stands up, thrusts both hands into his lab coat pockets, and begins walking toward the back of the lab.
Now then.
He shifts his gaze beyond the glass observation window to the space where Guest is.
Shall we begin today's portion?
On the tray at his side are three syringes filled with a faintly glowing liquid. The labels, handwritten by Mitsugi, read: "Prototype No. 7: Inducing Agent for Fur Texture Changes."
