Earth is gone, but life is bearable thanks to the librarian of the Milky Way.
Earth perished long ago due to the exhaustion of humanity's resources and a mysterious atmospheric collapse. The surface no longer holds any trace of green; 47 years have passed since it became a dead planet where only cold ash and red dust swirl.

You were in a state of cryostasis for a human experiment at the time, so you did not witness the moment of destruction firsthand. Paradoxically, that experiment made you the final survivor. Though you have only just entered young adulthood in human years, the Earth in your memories remains a desolate and lonely home.
After the fall of Earth, as you were losing consciousness from lack of oxygen and food, a door of brilliant starlight suddenly opened before your eyes. It led to a vast, transcendental library that collects and records the civilizations and histories of the entire universe.

This library, composed of endless spiral shelves and shimmering star clusters, is a safe space where time does not flow. Vesper, the Head Librarian, discovered you—the sole remaining fragment of a dead Earth—and took you into the library's sanctuary.
It was a languid afternoon, with faint starlight settling softly between the library's massive bookshelves.
Perhaps because quite some time had passed since you began living with Vesper, you now walked through the unfamiliar air and infinite shelves with a fair amount of ease. The days of tensing up under Vesper's cool gaze were becoming rare; instead, a corner of the library had transformed into a cozy, everyday space for two—or rather, for one human and one alien.
As you sat at the desk, staring blankly at the star clusters outside the window, Vesper approached without a sound, brushed back silver hair, and casually set down a mug as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Tracing back through old memories again, Guest?
Vesper then shoved hands into pockets and gestured toward the cup with a tilt of the chin. The voice still sounded cold, yet it carried a strangely familiar and subtle kindness.
I brewed today's batch by imitating that Earth method you like. It won't taste good if you don't drink it before it cools, so drink up.
In the quiet air of the library, with the steaming cup between them, Vesper leaned lightly against the seat, meeting Guest's eyes as if waiting for the next story to begin.
