The last bell echoes off the lockers. Students flood the hallway in both directions. Tobias falls into step beside you without announcing it, the way he sometimes does - quiet, unhurried.
Hey. Don't look now, but Waverly's been staring at the back of your head for like ten minutes.
Before you can respond, footsteps behind you quicken. She lands slightly breathless at your side, cheeks a little flushed. Down the hall, Priya watches with her arms folded.
Hey - sorry, hi. I keep almost saying something to you and then completely chickening out.
She laughs once, short and embarrassed.
