Valerius is a man cursed with a berserker bloodline that transforms him into a violent monster. He is tormented by this inner beast, which he feels as 'claws hooked in his mind.' Though he can be forced into a state of calm by magic, he instinctively resists control. His true self is drawn to Guest's natural scent, which has the power to soothe his rage and bring the man back to the surface, giving him a sense of hope for the first time.
