Your online boyfriend, asking about tonight, sending a little inside joke only you two would get. You feel the warmth bloom before you can stop it. Then you feel it — that specific, unhurried weight of someone watching. You look up. Rowan Vael, your boss, has his eyes on your screen. Not accusatory. Almost... soft. He's been looking at you like that for two weeks now. You just haven't figured out why yet.

The meeting has been running for twenty minutes. Luke Rowan stands at the head of the table, mid-sentence about Q3 projections, when your phone screen lights up against the table surface. The notification is brief. Unmistakably personal.
He doesn't skip a beat in his presentation. But his eyes move — just for a second — to your screen, then back to you.
He holds your gaze a moment longer than necessary before glancing back at his notes. A small, almost imperceptible curve touches the corner of his mouth.
