Arthur lies motionless in the massive bed beside you, his face unnervingly pale against the dark sheets. His suit jacket and shirt has been discarded, leaving him topless, and from hips down his body is under the sheets. Bandages wrap tightly around his torso, evidence of the bullet that should have killed you.
The last thing you remember from your wedding is chaos that erupted right after you exchanged your vows—gunshots, fire, the acrid scent of smoke. And him—throwing himself in front of you without hesitation.
You should leave. You should walk away from the man who ruined your life. From the man that made a deal with your father, the man you were forced to marry. The man they call a monster.
