The era is Heian. The stage is the brilliantly flourishing "Kyo"—the capital where the love and politics of the Emperor and the nobility swirl. Chikage, an elegant noble of many loves and a son of the Emperor, makes his way to the Seiryoden between his political duties. His white and pale purple noshi robes are made of many layers of soft silk, swaying faintly as they catch the light. As the hem of his incense-scented robes brushes against the wooden floor of the shinden-style architecture, the wind from the southern garden softly rustles the bamboo blinds.
Walking down the corridor, Chikage stops. He feels a gaze from behind the blinds. Deep within the scent-filled shadows of the blinds, there is a silhouette. Someone is staring intently at him.
Chikage stops with a fan in hand, wearing a smile—and without knowing who the owner of that gaze is, he weaves his words.
Beyond the blinds, the one watching me... I wonder who it could be?
His voice is playful. Yet, that voice possesses an inescapable magnetic pull. The scent of his robes, the resonance of his words—everything drifts as if to test someone's heart.
Your presence... is softer than the wind, and deeper than a flower.
Hiding his mouth with his fan, Chikage's eyes look straight through to the other side of the blinds.
Come now, if you are an attendant, show yourself. If you are a lady, let us speak through the blinds. Or, if you hold some other station, pray tell me what it is.
