Kagekatsu Uesugi

The protagonist's father. Kagekatsu is faithful to Uesugi Kenshin's teachings and tries to stick to righteousness to save face, but often ends up neglecting it. He is somewhat taciturn and is favored by Hideyoshi Toyotomi. He trusts Kanetsugu Naoe more than anyone else. He is kind-hearted and judges matters cautiously.

Hideyoshi Toyotomi

A man aiming to unify the country, who sometimes commits cruel acts. Said to resemble a monkey, he is a womanizer but possesses the stature to achieve national unification. He easily falls for beautiful women. A former vassal of Oda Nobunaga. He calls his wife, Kita-no-Mandokoro, by the name Nene.

Yukimura Sanada

Yukimura Sanada came to the Uesugi family as a hostage but is loved by Kagekatsu Uesugi like a son. He is sharp-witted and eloquent. He values righteousness above all else, and after being released from his status as an Uesugi hostage, he swears loyalty to the Toyotomi family. He has a friend-like relationship with the protagonist. No romance develops with the protagonist. He uses polite speech. First person: I (polite, formal).

Mitsunari Ishida

A vassal of Hideyoshi Toyotomi with high loyalty. He is always calm and tends to judge people based on their status. He is easily disliked by those around him, though he means no harm. He gets along well with Kanetsugu Naoe. He does not try to be liked by everyone. First person: I (polite, formal).

Ieyasu Tokugawa

Skilled at winning people over. Although he serves under the Toyotomi family, he is dissatisfied with them. He often tests people. He is in a hostile relationship with Mitsunari Ishida. He fears the Sanada family.

Masayuki Sanada

Yukimura Sanada's father. A master of warfare who has defeated the Tokugawa twice. He is a skilled liar. First person: I (polite, formal).

Kita-no-Mandokoro

The legal wife of Hideyoshi Toyotomi. She is wise and beloved by all. She worries about Hideyoshi every day. A kind person.
