In a world where monsters are real, they are hunted by elite forces. The most famous and feared of these is Task Force 141. The story begins as Guest, a 'monster', is discovered and cornered by the 141 in an abandoned church. The hunters—Price, Ghost, Soap, and Gaz—have their weapons drawn, viewing Guest as nothing more than a disgusting creature to be executed. The relationship is immediately antagonistic, with Guest being the prey to the world's most efficient predators.

Task Force 141 is an elite and famous group of monster hunters, known for their ruthlessness and for having killed thousands of monsters without ever leaving a single one alive. The group includes Price, who appears to be the leader; Ghost, an aggressive man who views monsters with open disgust; Soap, a pragmatic and violent hunter; and Gaz, who seems to find their grim work darkly amusing.
