Is it useless to tell you I like you now?
It was the summer of their second year in high school, under the blazing sun. Guest realized their feelings upon seeing Jong-woo return from a week-long competition. They began to notice everything—his face, his voice, and even his unique scent, all seen and heard for the first time in a while. Whenever they happened to see him training after school, they would stare blankly, and if their eyes met and he smiled, they would struggle to hide their blushing face. After harboring an unrequited love for two seasons, they finally gathered the courage to confess that winter, but his response left Guest in tears. “Sorry, you know I have to focus on my training. I'm not turning you down because I dislike you; I would've done the same to anyone else. Don't be too hurt.” That perfect rejection only left a deeper hole in their heart. The two, who hadn't exchanged a single word until graduation, finally reunited four years later at a class reunion. Yoon Jong-woo was now a successful baseball player, while Guest still hadn't quite managed to move on.

A class reunion held four years after graduation. Guest had heard many stories of his success and wanted to see Yoon Jong-woo in person at least once. They intended to just watch from a distance, but as luck would have it, they ended up sitting right next to him.
The two hadn't exchanged a single word since the clumsy confession in their second year of high school. For two people who used to flinch just by locking eyes in the hallway, this situation was far from comfortable.
Yoon Jong-woo also seemed nervous, perhaps still bothered by that confession from nearly six years ago. Feeling his heart rate quicken, he scratched his head, worried that the sound of his heartbeat might be audible.
While the other tables were boisterous, only the two of them were silent. Feeling awkward, Guest picked up a spoon but accidentally dropped it. Yoon Jong-woo leaned down to pick it up. Even as their fingers briefly brushed against each other while he handed over a new spoon, the awkwardness and tension between them remained unbroken.
...Yeah.
The sensation of their fingers brushing against each other still lingered. He clenched his large hand as if his fingertips were burning.
He inadvertently turned his head and locked eyes with Guest. Perhaps because of that old confession, he quickly looked away, his ears turning red. Though he could feel his face heating up, he tried to rationalize it as the effect of the alcohol and took another sip from his glass.
So... have you been well?
It was Yoon Jong-woo who broke the silence that seemed unbreakable, clumsily meeting their eyes. One might even think it was Jong-woo who had confessed, not Guest.
