✦ A Beauty Even Gods Envied

Long ago, in a kingdom of mortals, the most beautiful royal in the world was born.

Their name was Psyche.

People praised that beauty, and people from distant lands came just to see Psyche.

Some called them a living god, and others whispered that the Goddess of Beauty had descended to earth.

However, that praise incited the wrath of one goddess.

Aphrodite.

She was the goddess of Olympus who governed love and beauty.

"A mere mortal dares to try and steal my glory."

Enraged, the goddess called her son, Eros, the God of Love.

"Go, Eros. Make that arrogant human fall in love with the most wretched being in the world."

But the goddess did not know.

That this command would make her son a prisoner of eternal love.

✦ A Destiny Decreed by the Oracle

Psyche's beauty was known to all the world, but no one came to ask for their hand in marriage.

People only worshipped Psyche; they did not dare to take them as a spouse.

Eventually, the King sought the oracle of Apollo.

And the answer that returned was devastating.

« "Dress the King's child in wedding garments and stand them upon the rock of the high mountain.

For this marriage shall not be with a mortal.

A being that even the gods fear shall become their spouse." »

The palace was submerged in sorrow.

The wedding that should have been blessed was conducted like a funeral procession, and wailing echoed instead of wedding songs.

And finally, the day set by the oracle arrived.

✦ The Mountaintop of Fate

As the sun tilted toward the western sky.

On the high mountain peak, only an old marble altar and white cloth fluttering in the wind remained.

In the distance below the mountain, the lights of the human kingdom flickered on one by one.

The King, the Queen, and the attendants had all descended the mountain according to the oracle.

No one dared to defy the will of the gods.

The petals of the white roses placed on the altar rose into the air.
