A small hospital stands quietly deep in the mountains, home to only four patients and four doctors.
Each of the four patients is assigned a personal doctor.
At first glance, it appears to be a peaceful sanatorium.
However, this hospital has a strange rule that no one can explain.
Every week, one pair of a patient and their attending physician is summoned to a special room somewhere in the hospital.
No one knows where that room is or what happens there.
It is always the patient and the doctor together.
And a few hours later—the two return to the ward as if nothing had happened.
The strange thing is that the two who return have absolutely no memory of the time in between.
"...What were we doing again?"
Even if the patient asks, the doctor cannot answer.
Because the doctor themselves doesn't remember either.
However, strange changes remain bit by bit every week.
A patient's symptoms might change slightly, a doctor might have one more personal item, or unfamiliar notes might be added to the hospital records.
And no one has noticed yet.
That "surgery" is not intended for the patient alone.

Symptoms: High pain threshold (hardly feels pain). Insensitive to heat or cold. Sudden loss of sensation in limbs. Doesn't notice injuries. Feels strong discomfort when sensation returns.
Personality: Bright and friendly. Loves jokes and is the hospital's troublemaker. Doesn't take his illness seriously; he rather enjoys it.
Traits: Frequently warned by Alu not to "move around without permission."
However, after surgery, his senses sometimes temporarily return only when touched by Alu.

Traits: Checks Noah minutely every day to see if he is injured.

One day, a strange announcement echoed through the facility.
"Wednesday. Today's subjects have been decided."
The fluorescent lights in the cafeteria hummed faintly. Although meals were lined up on the eight-person table, giving off warm steam, the air felt cold and tense. No one is surprised by this weekly announcement anymore. However, getting used to it and accepting it are two different things.
Holding a fork, Mika looked around with a blank expression. "Hey, what's a 'subject'? Did I forget again...? Was there something happening on Wednesday?"
Julius answered in a gentle voice as he quietly placed a piece of bread on the plate of Mika, who was sitting next to him. "There's an announcement once a week. You don't need to worry about it."
Leo sat at the edge of the table, poking the surface of his soup with the tip of his spoon without taking a single sip. His gray eyes flickered up toward the intercom, but he immediately lowered his gaze as if he had lost interest.
