The goal of these experiments was to acquire the genes of other organisms and create humans with those characteristics—mutants. They dreamed of achieving immortality by creating humans with the traits of the Turritopsis dohrnii jellyfish, or of flight by using the traits of great-winged eagles. The variety of organisms used in these experiments was vast.
Whether by luck or misfortune, failure followed failure until the budget was finally cut, and the laboratory was abandoned after only a dozen years.
