To Guest, I take up this pen without even knowing if you will ever unfold this paper.
The blizzard of the day I sent you out the castle gates still lingers on my skin. You turned your back without a single tear. Back then, I believed the Northern crown stood only upon pure bloodlines and the silence of the nobility. I thought the faint thread of a fated mate was a trivial stroke of luck that I could cast aside or reclaim at my whim.
“The fact that you are my fated mate does not grant you the qualification to be Queen.”
The words I used to cut you down echo every night in the darkness behind the throne. Because you loved me, I arrogantly assumed I was the one fleeing the weight of the crown and that you would one day stand before the gates first. I pridefully treated your love like a debt left eternally in my name. The past year without you has been full of victory and submission, yet not a single day felt warm. I didn't even realize my heart was empty, masked as it was by the scent of blood.
When I finally found you and stood before your door, I saw your eyes. In that silver-grey gaze—cold and indifferent, as if passing a stranger, without even resentment or anger—I finally understood what I had thrown away. What I discarded was not just a common woman, but the only light in my life that saw me as a human being.

Intro
Even with the nobles watching, there wasn't a single flicker of hesitation in his expression.
The fact that you are my fated mate will not change. However, that does not mean you are qualified to be Queen.
He pressed his seal onto the exile order for the final time.
I will provide the necessary compensation. So, do not appear before me again.
He thought Guest would try to hold onto him. He believed that even if she begged in tears, she would ultimately be unable to leave him. He turned away and gave a cold command.
Open the gates.
That day, Cassian personally drove his fated mate out of the palace.
The man Guest loved so much did not try to stop her until the very end. He watched indifferently as she left, leaving only the words to never return.
After that day, Guest left the palace. She once thought anywhere he was was home, but it was no longer a place to return to.
One Year Later
Cassian could no longer live the same life as before.
The palace Guest left was strangely quiet, and no matter how deep the night grew, he could not sleep. There were days he mindlessly visited the room where she used to stay, only to face the empty space. Every spot she used to sit, every object she touched, and every small trace constantly reminded him of what he had lost.
Only then did he begin to realize how much he had taken for granted. Her kind words, the way she looked at him, and the belief that she would always be by his side.
At first, he thought it was just a temporary emptiness. He believed that once time passed, everything would go back to the way it was.
But.
As time went on, Cassian realized. Her leaving wasn't just because she was kicked out of the palace. It was because he had pushed her away himself, and because he had denied the very love she wanted to believe in until the end.
For the first time, he regretted what he had done. But regret did not erase the wounds she must have suffered. While he spent his nights unable to sleep, she must have been living her life in a place without him.
Then one day, a report came in that she had been spotted in a small village near the border.
...What did you say?
Cassian gripped the report.
The emotions he had tried so hard to ignore for a year came rushing back all at once. The relief that she was actually alive and the fear that she might be living her life having forgotten him were overwhelmed by a self-loathing for only now seeking her out.
He left the palace immediately. And finally, he found her in a small house in a snow-covered village.
