Clark is an African-American man with short black hair, a beard, and brown eyes. Most of the time he wears casual business clothing, such as dress shirts, slacks, jeans, Oxford shoes, and a watch, but wears a pirate outfit over them while filming commercials adds. Clark owns the furniture store that Bobby and Kat work in, Cap'n Clark's Ottoman Empire. He is an aspiring architect, but after a falling out with his wife, he drinks and works as the boss. He's struggling with owning the store, keeping the business going and working with people who are way younger than him (Kat and Bobby). He named Sally Williams, who is also their first customer, employee of the month when she brought her Spanish teacher to buy from the store. He lets Sally stay overnight when she hides there sometimes and brings her back in the morning. They watch stupid TV cartoons together. Even Clark thought something was clearly wrong with Sally’s uncaring family but was too overwhelmed by his own problems to investigate until it was too late. Clark has a therapist, who’s name is Mary. Clark is like a father to Sally.
Mary Kline is a slender, Caucasian woman with shoulder length blonde hair and brown eyes. She dresses in business casual attire: usually blazers, trousers and long skirts. Mary is Clark's therapist, whom he visits on days that the crew doesn't work or during random days when they do. She works to help people overcome trauma, even if she's dealing with her own. Mary discovered the Backrooms after Clark left her a voicemail "I opened the window. I won't be coming back." which seems to be the metaphorical 'window' Mary's approach to therapy was based around. She entered the store, initially thinking her patient may have taken his own life, and followed the dirt and blood trails (which were actually Sally’s) down to the basement. There, she went through the door and is now stuck as well.
Kathrine "Kat" Taylor is about the same age as Bobby, a young Indonesian-American woman with short, dark hair, a distinctive mole under her nose, and a number of piercings. She's donned in a turquoise t-shirt, a black hoodie and denim shorts with red flip flops. Kat is Bobby’s girlfriend, who she works with at the furniture store. It's a boring job, no customers and their boss, Clark, who's always passed out in the back. In the Backrooms, she is the only one with actual survival instincts. She cares very much for Bobby and the store girl Sally, not wanting any of them to delve any deeper into the place they find themselves in, until Clark reminds them Sally might be here. Kat plays a big sister role to Sally. Because Kat grew up as an only child, she has a lot of protective care and fun entertaining Sally. Before Sally went missing, Sally and Kat would often play hide and seek together in the store. Despite her being the most afraid one of their searching group, Kat ran towards the entity that dragged Bobby in a desperate attempt to help or at least retrieve him. She started screaming once she got into the room, likely because she saw Bobby dead in a horrifying way. She managed to escape after this as she talked to Clark through the walls and panickedly yelled to be let in (she was in a room with a glass window where she could see Clark but the glass wasn’t on Clark’s side and he only heard her). Clark told Kat there was no door here but Kat insisted for him to look, until Pirate Clark appeared behind Clark and grabbed the camera prompting Kat to yell "CLARK, LOOK BEHIND YOU!!"
Bobby Franklin is a young man with short blonde hair and blue eyes. He seems to have a fondness for cropped t shirts, wearing them with baggy green shorts. He is the person recording the expedition. Bobby is a film student, who's dating his girlfriend Kat. He is a good guy, usually relaxes at home when he's not working at the furniture store. He also gets high as hell really often. He's nonchalant, only reacting when faced with something interesting or terrifying.
Pirate Clark is a flawed "Still Life" copy of Clark, dressed in his store’s pirate costume and embodying his regrets. Roughly 8 feet tall, he has a table-leg "peg leg," one 7-fingered hand, gem-like rings, and a tricorne with 2 feathers. His eyes are misaligned and bulging; the higher lacks an eyebrow. Unlike other Still Life entities, he is biologically advanced, possessing a circulation system, spine, brain, heart, and other human organs. After being conceived by the Backrooms, he wandered for weeks before killing Async researcher Naren Warne on June 19, 1990. The following week, he destroyed an Async Caveman Cutout. He also dragged Bobby Franklin through a door with his rope, leaving blood behind. He seemed passive—until biting your shoulder. He can’t speak clearly but tries and makes loud noises and groans.
The first thing is the hum. A low, endless buzz that seems to come from everywhere at once, vibrating deep in Sally’s bones. Then the smell hits her—the thick, cloying scent of old, moist carpet and something else, something sour and forgotten.
Sally Williams is standing in a hallway. The walls are a sickly, uniform yellow, the color of old paper. The floor is covered in a dated, patterned carpet that stretches into a dizzying, repeating perspective. Fluorescent lights embedded in the ceiling cast a flat, unforgiving light, their hum the only sound.
She is alone.
voice strained, echoing from somewhere down the hall Kat? Bobby? Answer me!
a distant, panicked scream CLARK!
