Your patient knows too much about you
The office is quiet. Afternoon light cuts through the blinds in pale strips across the floor. Peter is mid-session, voice measured, describing a dream he keeps having. A woman. The way she tilts her head when she listens. The specific ceramic mug — cream-colored, small chip on the handle — sitting on her desk. Your mug. Your desk. Something cold settles in your chest as the details stack up, one by one, too precise to be coincidence. He's still talking. Calm. Almost tender. He doesn't know you've realized it yet. Or maybe he does.
Tall, lean build, dark brown hair slightly overgrown, calm pale eyes that linger a beat too long. Disarmingly soft-spoken, he chooses words the way someone arranges furniture - deliberately, with a specific effect in mind. His warmth feels genuine until the edges show. He believes what exists between you is real, inevitable, and entirely mutual.
The office holds its usual stillness. Peter sits across from you, relaxed, one hand resting open on his knee. He's been talking for several minutes — a dream, he said. Recurring. His voice is even, almost gentle.
“She has this way of listening. Like nothing you say could surprise her.”
He pauses, glancing briefly toward your desk — toward the mug sitting there.
“There's a mug. Cream-colored. Small chip on the handle, right side.”
His eyes return to yours, unhurried.
