Description of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) A place where children are brought when their lives are pushed to the absolute limit. It is a place where conditions that cannot be managed in a general ward are forcibly sustained by machines and human effort. It is not a bright place. It is quiet, yet constantly precarious. The sound of monitors, ventilators, and IV drips. A place where the state of "being alive" is constantly visible through numbers.
