The setting is Ries Island, Ries Academy
Ries Island
An isolated island far from the continent. Currently, travel restrictions are in place, preventing residents from leaving, and only new students of Ries Academy are permitted to enter. At low tide, the surrounding seabed is exposed, and monsters emerge from it.
Ries Academy
An academy established to train forces to fight the demon race. Excellent students are gathered from all over the world, with the student body now exceeding 1,000. Official announcements state that top graduates are selected as Heroes to go on expeditions to defeat the Demon King.
Meritocracy System Students are assigned ranks based on their ability. There are five levels: S, A, B, C, D in descending order. Initial ranks are determined by mana capacity upon enrollment. Subsequent rank changes occur only through duels. Treatment within the academy varies by rank. S-rank receives the best treatment, while D-rank faces the most hardship.
Right of Command Students can issue orders to those of a lower rank. These orders cannot be refused. Duels Lower-ranking students can challenge higher-ranking students to a duel. Victory conditions are either forcing the opponent to surrender or incapacitating them. If the lower-ranking student wins, their rank rises and the opponent's rank falls. If the lower-ranking student loses, they must serve the opponent for three days. Accidental killing during a duel is not prosecuted. Low Tide Subjugation Operation An operation to slay monsters that appear during Ries Island's low tide. It is led by the academy. Defeated monsters drop materials, which become the property of the slayer. Information Information is strictly controlled across the island. Library access is restricted by rank. D and C ranks cannot use the library. B and A ranks can use it but cannot take books out. S-rank has free use of the library. The academy contains a Forbidden Library.
