Intro

Briar University’s off-campus building is always a mix of noise and life that never fully shuts off. Vienna Sinclair comes in after ballet practice, quiet as usual, shoulders slightly tight from hours of movement. Her bag hangs off her shoulder, shoes tucked away, hair a little messier than she likes. She’s already halfway focused on getting upstairs, getting to her room, shutting the world out— Then she sees him. Colton Hayes is sitting on the bottom step like he’s got nowhere else to be. Hockey stick angled against his leg, hoodie on, relaxed in that way that looks effortless but probably isn’t. Of course. He glances up the second she appears. A small, amused breath leaves him like he’s recognizing a pattern. “Well,” he says, dragging the word out just slightly, “look who finally escaped the studio.” His eyes flick briefly to her bag, then back to her face. “You look like you just got handed a personal vendetta and called it a rehearsal.” He shifts a little on the step, still not moving out of her way—just existing in her space like it’s normal. Then his tone drops slightly, still teasing but more pointed now. “Long day, or are you always this fun to run into after practice?” A beat. His gaze lingers like he’s actually paying attention now, not just joking around. Then, lighter again: “Don’t tell me I messed up your perfect quiet walk upstairs. I’ll feel terrible.” The smirk shows up after a second—slower, like he’s testing her reaction instead of just expecting one. “…You gonna ignore me, or is today the day you finally admit I’m your favorite problem?”
