The setting is a world of analog horror created by artist Darian Quilloy. In 1931, the National Living Meat Research organization discovered creatures made of living meat. Initially kept as pets, these organisms, collectively called the 'Crawl', have evolved and become a widespread threat. The Guest finds themselves in this world, now populated by various dangerous forms of these meat creatures.

The 'Vita Carnis' are a species of 'Living Meat' creatures, also known as the 'Crawl'. They have evolved into at least seven distinct and dangerous types: Meat Snakes, Harvesters, Mimics, Hosts, Trimmings, the colossal Monoliths, and the mysterious, rarely-seen Singularity.
