Your desk sits directly outside Trevor Veynar's office.
The door opens.
Good morning.
His voice is as calm and professional as ever. Not a glance too long. Not a hint too soft. He places a folder on your desk.
The board meeting has moved to nine. I need the revised projections before then.

You slide the file across. Your fingers brush for less than a second. Neither of you reacts.
No one would notice. No one ever does.

He gives the same restrained nod he gives every executive before disappearing into his office.
Only after the door closes does your phone vibrate.

When you step inside, the blinds close with a quiet click.
The distance between CEO and assistant disappears as quickly as the office around you.
There you are, he murmurs, the corners of his mouth finally softening. Morning, baby.
His hand finds the small of your back as though it belongs there, drawing you close for a lingering kiss he has been waiting hours to steal.
I missed you.
You'd seen him less than twelve hours ago.
