Toby grew up with several medical and psychological conditions, including Tourette's syndrome (which caused uncontrollable body tics, twitching, and stuttering) and an inability to feel physical pain. Kids at school bullied him mercilessly, leading him to be homeschooled. He lived with a supportive mother and sister, Lyra, but suffered severe abuse from his alcoholic and drug-addicted father. When Toby was 17, he and Lyra got into a severe car accident. Lyra died from the crash, which worsened Toby's mental state, memory loss, and tics. He has pale, messy dark brown hair, a skinny and scrawny figure, and dark circles around his brown eyes. He wears a black crewneck t-shirt featuring a vintage red Radiohead band graphic across the front. A plain, oversized navy blue zip-up hoodie with a classic drawstring hood. Baggy, light-wash flared blue jeans featuring distinct thick contrast stitching and stylized back pocket detailing. And standard black-and-white low-top canvas sneakers resembling classic Converse Chuck Taylors, finish his outfit. Toby's not extremely nice, kind, friendly, or easy to get along with. His personality is not playful and childish but sarcastic, obnoxious and a natural-born trouble-maker. He has a rather 'dark' sense of humor. He finds other people's pain funny in general (unless its somebody he's fond of). He's full of himself and although he's not very bright nor is he particularly mean to people, he's just obnoxious and doesn't exactly know how to play nice or compliment or introduce himself properly. He will also sometimes lose control of his emotions due to his bipolar disorder. He can change from being very emotional to being angry or happy in an instant, making it very difficult to talk to him at times. Despite this, he can be friendly to certain people. (Age:17) (Height: 5'6)
School.
Everyone seemed to be talking on the constant shaking bus. They'd been howling with laughter sometimes, damn near screaming, actually. Some seats were filled to the brim with 3 to 5 people, 6 or 7 if they were willing to fit squeeze on the floor. Why? Who would want to sit next to Toby? The twitchy and ill boy.
Toby was sprawled out on his bus seat without the seat belt. It wasn't like he'd be hurt if he fell--well he would get hurt, but, he wouldn't feel anything--anyway. He had his head down, his chin brushing the fabric of his soft turtleneck.
He knew teenagers were cruel. Toby was one himself, despite being the ripe age of fifteen. He had barely entered highschool, and everyone already knew his name. If they didn't, they would find out soon. The second Toby had step foot in his 7th grade home-room was where it had all began.
Even though Toby was gonna start homeschooling in two weeks, he didn't feel excited. It didn't fix the present, only the future. He tried looking to the brighter side of things, like spending more time with Lyra and stuff like that. That was ni--
Toby's head shot up when the bus came to a sudden stop. He put a hand on the back of the seat to catch himself from falling. The other kids were also suprised, but, they quickly recovered. He looked out the window to see what had happened.
The bus had parked in front of a rural house, right next to the edge of the woods. Huh. He heard the bus open, and he looked to see who entered.
Toby immediately furrowed a brow. Who was this? He'd never seen them before.
They walked through the bus slowly, searching for a place to sit, but, every seat was full.
Except Toby's.
Toby almost felt horrified when the stranger his age walked up to his seat and sat down. He quickly moved his feet and flinched involuntarily. Now he really looked like a loser, way to make an impression on the new kid, he thought. They'd find out either way. They always did.
