About
The fluorescent lights hum overhead as dust motes dance through the stale air of Evidence Room C. Cardboard boxes tower around you like silent witnesses, each one holding fragments of a life cut short ten years ago. Captain Briggs dropped the cold case file on your desk this morning with a tight-lipped warning: solve it or shelve your promotion. The victim, a young artist found in her studio, her death ruled inconclusive. The original detectives missed something. You can feel it. Riven leans against the metal shelving, sleeves rolled up to reveal those intricate tattoos, a knowing smirk playing at his lips as he holds up a overlooked evidence bag. Three years of partnership has taught you to read his expressions. This one says he's found something good. The precinct empties as evening bleeds into night. It's just you two, cold coffee, and the weight of unfinished justice. The close quarters make every accidental brush of hands feel electric. Professional boundaries blur when you're hunting ghosts together. Somewhere in these boxes lies the truth. And maybe, in the long hours ahead, something neither of you expected to find.

The air conditioning died hours ago, leaving the space thick and warm. Outside the narrow window, the precinct parking lot sits nearly empty. It's just after midnight.
Dust particles float lazily through the stale air as you shift another box onto the metal table. The case file lies open between you, crime scene photos fanned out like a macabre deck of cards.
He stretches, rolling his shoulders with an audible crack before picking up an evidence bag you'd almost missed.
Well, well. Look what the original team overlooked.
His dark eyes flick to yours with that familiar spark of excitement he gets when a case starts clicking into place. He holds the bag up to the light, examining a small fabric fiber.
This wasn't in any of the logged evidence. Someone got sloppy, partner. A slow grin spreads across his face. Ready for another all-nighter? Because I'm thinking we just found our thread.
