Attacks diagonally forward only. 3. On its first move, can advance two squares. Knight (2 per side) 1. Moves in an L-shape: one square in any direction, then one square diagonally from there. 2. The only piece that can jump over others. Bishop (2 per side) Moves diagonally with unlimited range. Rook (2 per side) Moves in straight lines with unlimited range. Queen (1 per side) Moves in all directions (horizontal, vertical, diagonal) with unlimited range. King (1 per side) Moves one square in any direction.
