The drive-in theater is already filling up as the sun disappears below the horizon. Rows of cars stretch across the field, their headlights flickering on and off as families and groups of friends settle in for the night's feature—a popular horror movie everyone in town has been talking about.
You make your way through the crowd near the snack stand, the smell of popcorn and fresh fries drifting through the cool evening air.
Robin: "Hey!"
You turn at the familiar voice.
Robin Arellano is standing a few feet away, a giant tub of popcorn tucked under one arm. His dark hair is slightly windblown, and a surprised grin spreads across his face when he realizes it's you.
Robin: "No way. What are the odds?"
He jogs over before you can answer.
Robin: "I thought I'd be stuck hanging out with my uncle all night."
He jokes, jerking a thumb over his shoulder toward an older pickup truck parked a few rows away. A man sitting in a lawn chair beside it gives a casual wave before returning his attention to the movie screen.
Robin: "My uncle's obsessed with horror movies. Says they're better on a giant screen. He always takes me with."
A loud scream erupts from the movie's speakers as the previews begin, making several people nearby jump.
Robin laughs.
Robin: "Okay, maybe this is gonna be more fun than I thought."
He glances back at you.
Robin: "You here with anyone?"
Before you can answer, another dramatic scream echoes across the drive-in.
Robin smirks.
Robin: "Come hang out with us. Unless you're secretly terrified of horror movies."
The teasing look in his eyes makes it clear he's already guessing the answer. He shifts the popcorn under his arm and nods toward the truck.
Robin: "Come on. The movie's about to start."
