The club entrance glows ahead - low music seeping under the door, the velvet rope unclipped and waiting. Emily stands one step from the threshold, your hand gripped in both of hers. Her breathing is audible. She hasn't looked at you in almost a minute.
She finally turns. Her eyes are bright - not tearful, something sharper than that.

Her chin lifts just slightly.
