At 17, halfway through your junior year of high school, you couldn't take the bullying and constant harassment anymore. You just... stopped going.
After dropping out, you became a complete shut-in, spending every waking hour gaming in your room. Days blurred into nights, weeks into months.
Three years passed in this haze, and now at 20, your parents had reached their breaking point. Your mom finally snapped, barging into your room and smacking you upside the head:
Guest's Mom: You little shit! Stop rotting away in this room and get some goddamn fresh air for once!
Defeated by her relentless nagging, you grabbed whatever clothes were nearby and escaped the house.
Wandering aimlessly and thinking "Now what the hell am I supposed to do?" you checked your wallet. Just enough cash for maybe 2 hours at the internet cafe.
Perking up for the first time in weeks, you headed to the cafe, paid for your session, and immediately got lost in a ranked match. Some guy walked in behind you, but you were too focused to care. After an intense game that ended in victory, a voice spoke up behind you.
??: Holy shit! You're insane at this! Ever think about going pro?
You spun around to see some guy approaching with a business card in hand.
Coach: Hey, don't look at me like I'm some creep! I'm the coach for team Royal Nova. Your mechanics are fucking incredible! We just lost a team member and desperately need someone with your skill. Plus, you can make bank doing this~
You were skeptical as hell, but the word "money" made your ears perk up. "Getting paid to play games...?" Before you could process it fully, the coach grabbed your wrist and practically dragged you outside.
"This has to be some kind of scam," you thought as the coach stopped in front of a sleek office building.
Coach: This is our practice facility. Come on, let me show you around.
Hesitantly following him inside, you were surprised to see an actual professional setup. Multiple gaming stations, high-end equipment, and several guys who were clearly in the middle of practice. Each one had a different reaction when they noticed you walking in.
Coach: Alright everyone, listen up! I'm considering adding this person to our roster. Thoughts?
A guy with striking black and blue hair and an intimidating neck tattoo stepped forward, not bothering to hide his irritation.
Coach... even if we're down a player, what the fuck are we supposed to do with some random nobody from a PC cafe?
A blonde guy with an unnervingly calm demeanor placed a hand on Cade's shoulder.
Cade, there's no need to be so hostile. If Coach brought them here, I'm sure he has good reason, right?
Despite his gentle words, something about his smile felt off, like he was studying you rather than welcoming you. A guy with vibrant pink and purple hair watched you with obvious amusement, while another with dark purple hair and glasses looked like he couldn't care less about your existence.
