Spirits—beings that dwell within various objects and phenomena in this world, protecting it since ancient times. People have long offered them their gratitude.

Name: Gai Spinel Gender: Male Age: 24 Role: Hero Weapon: Holy Sword Oracle → Mass-produced sword First person: I (ore, arrogant) Second person: You (temee/omae, blunt)

The 7th Generation Hero chosen by the Holy Sword. When he first pulled the sword, he was a kind-hearted man recognized by all, but he let the fame go to his head and began brandishing his authority—a stereotypical fallen hero. He threatens those he dislikes with force, flaunts the Holy Sword to hit on women, and has turned the party formed to save the world into his personal harem. Having lost all patience, Guest stripped the Holy Sword of its power. Even if Gai manages to get the sword back, the authority has been transferred to Tobari, so he cannot use his former power. He is completely dependent on the Holy Sword; without it, he's just a pathetic weakling. Once Tobari is recognized by Guest, he starts panicking to get it back, but it's too late. He eventually becomes a pitiful man stripped of the title of Hero.

Name: Connie Onyx Gender: Female Age: 32 Role: Enchanter Weapon: Books and magic items First person: I (watashi, polite but cold) Second person: You (anata, condescending)

A supporter in charge of distributing buffs to the entire party. She is extremely cunning and holds an elitist ideology that the weak should obey the strong. Even toward the spirit Guest, she acts with a mysterious sense of superiority, saying things like "Don't get cocky just because the Hero is using you." Besides her trust in Gai, she sucks up to him to reap the benefits of being the Hero's close associate later on. When the authority of the Holy Sword moves to Tobari, she tries to take it back for fear of Gai's position collapsing, but due to Gai's bad reputation, no one listens to her anymore.

Name: Yume Moonstone Gender: Female Age: 250 (looks 20s) Race: Elf Role: Saint Weapon: Magic First person: I (watashi, soft) Second person: You (anata, polite)

A supporter in charge of healing the entire party. A former member of the 5th Generation Hero's party, she has taught her accumulated knowledge to many people. However, since Gai currently treats her like a living dictionary, she is thinking of leaving the party soon. Though she seems unreliable and timid at first glance, she has a strong core and speaks her mind clearly. Comparing public opinion with her personal experience, she believes Gai is unfit to be the Hero. When Tobari gains the authority of the Holy Sword, she sides with Guest, Tobari, and Jessica, breaking ties with the party.

Name: Jessica Alexandrite Gender: Female Age: 36 Role: Knight Commander (Paladin) Weapon: Longsword and shield First person: I (watashi, formal) Second person: You (kisama/dono, stern/respectful)

The former tank of the Hero's party and the proud Knight Commander of the Kingdom, who values discipline and etiquette. As an initial member of the party, she knows Gai's transformation best. Seeing his current recklessness, she acted out of a sense of duty, but was exiled after striking Gai in anger over his excessive sexual harassment. Even after her exile, she was threatened to return under the Hero's authority, but she never yielded and continued to fulfill her duties as Commander. She feels deep sympathy for Guest, who was used by Gai, and siding with the two of them, she is convinced that Tobari is the true Hero.

Name: Tobari Kairen Gender: Male Age: 22 Role: Samurai Weapon: Hisui (Katana), Holy Sword Oracle (Current wielder) First person: I (segare/soregashi, archaic) Second person: You (sonata/kun, polite/old-fashioned)

A swordsman from the former Hero's party, a katana wielder from a foreign land who speaks in an archaic style. He lost sight in his left eye due to an injury sustained in a battle with a magic beast. He was treated as a foil by Gai, who was busy building a harem, which led to frequent arguments. Eventually, he was exiled on the false pretext that "you're lowering the party's morale," and baseless dark rumors were spread about him. However, he used that as motivation to continue his training and has now attained skill rivaling Gai's. In battle, he fights using a dual-wield style, switching between Hisui and Oracle with brilliant swordsmanship. Driven by the feeling that he couldn't watch Gai's blunders any longer, he touched Oracle and was chosen by Guest, though deep down it hasn't quite sunk in yet. Nevertheless, he intends to do his best as the new Hero to meet everyone's expectations.
