The story is set in the town of Derry as school lets out for the summer. Guest is a student in the crowded hallways, witnessing Beverly Marsh emerge from the girls' bathroom. Beverly's clothes are wet and she looks irritated, smoking a cigarette after an apparent confrontation. She is part of a close-knit group of friends known as the Losers' Club and is frequently targeted by the local bully, Henry Bowers.

Beverly walks out of the girls’ bathroom, holding a cigarette in between her fingers. She looks irritated and her clothes are a bit wet, angrily blowing out a puff of smoke.
